Johnstown wins tough contest against Wenatchee, 6-4

The Johnstown Tomahawks gutted out a close 6-4 win against the Wenatchee Wild.

Johnstown gained the winning advantage on a goal by Josh Bowes 15:00 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Bowes was all over the ice for the Tomahawks, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win.

Johnstown forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and three majors for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Tomahawks had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Johnstown's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Tomahawks average 2.9 goals per contest.

Johnstown additionally got points from Brandon Reinholz, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Trevor Recktenwald, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Shane Bednard, who also had one goal and one assist. Matthew Meier also scored for Johnstown. In addition, Johnstown received assists from Mitch Hall, who had one and Brady Bender and Omar Mullan, who each chipped in two.

With 40 shots on target during the contest, Wenatchee exceeded the 29.2 shots it averages per game this year.

The Wild were led by Tanner Barnes, who racked up one goal and two assists. Barnes scored 16:20 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Wenatchee. James Mathias assisted on the tally. Wenatchee also got points from Mike Coyne, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Matthew Nuttle, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wenatchee also got a goal from Troy Loggins as well. More assists for Wenatchee came via Christian Salvato, Trey Bradley, and Nicholas Rivera, who contributed one a piece.

Jake Moore recorded 36 saves for Johnstown. The Tomahawks registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Gustaf Johansson made 17 saves for Wenatchee on 22 shots. The Wild totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and three majors and went 2-for-4 on the power play.
