Aberdeen uses shootout to best MN Magicians, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Aberdeen Wings defeated the MN Magicians Magicians in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Aberdeen also got a shootout goal from Erik Gollenbeck.

The Wings overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Aberdeen trailed 2-1 after a goal by MN Magicians' Colin Hernon at 11:46 in the third period. The Wings tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Jake Horton at 19:59 in the third period.

Aberdeen stifled the Magicians' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Wings put 46 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.9 they average per game.

Aberdeen was helped by Erik Baskin, who grabbed one goal. Baskin scored on the power play 12:15 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Wings had gained a power play chance when Derick Kuchera was whistled for interference. Jonathan Grebosky assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Aberdeen were TJ Roo and Kyle Haak, who contributed one a piece.

Aberdeen was unable to stop MN Magicians from sending pucks towards the net, and the Magicians eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

MN Magicians also got a goal from Patrick Pollock as well. In addition, MN Magicians received assists from Nicholas Kuchera, Matt Colford, and Travis Koepke, who each chipped in one.

Chad Catt made 37 saves for the Wings on 39 shots. Aberdeen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. MN Magicians' Bryan Nies stopped 43 shots out of the 45 that he faced. The Magicians incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
