Port Huron beats Janesville 2-1 after comeback scare

The Port Huron Fighting Falcons survived a determined comeback attempt by the Janesville Jets on the way to a 2-1 win.

A goal by Mitch Maloney put Port Huron up 2-0 in the second period, but Janesville pulled to within one on Adam Winborg's tally 2:14 into the third period.

The Fighting Falcons were led by goalie Alex Blankenburg, who finished with 39 saves while allowing one goal. Blankenburg managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.25 prior to the game.

Port Huron also got a goal from Jonathan Kopacka as well. More assists for Port Huron came via Bryan Yim, who had two and Matt Jones and Vito Aluia, who each chipped in one.

The Jets relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Winborg, Robin Hoglund and Tyler Rehm took 21 of the team's 40 shots.

In addition, Janesville received assists from Jordan Himley and Drew Callin, who contributed one a piece.

Port Huron totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Janesville's Brock Kautz stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Jets totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play.
