Brookings outlasts Minot, 4-2

The Brookings Blizzard and the Minot Minotauros were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Brookings made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

The Blizzard gained the winning advantage on a goal by Jeff Flicker 12:07 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Brookings' penalty kill excelled, as the Blizzard gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Brookings was paced by Flicker, who grabbed one goal.

The the Blizzard penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game Brookings had been spending in the box. With 34 shots on target during the contest, the Blizzard exceeded the 29.1 shots they average per game this year.

Brookings additionally got points from Conor Andrle, who also had one goal and one assist and Branislav Rapac, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Wyatt Schmidt also scored for Brookings. More assists for Brookings came via Evan Hesse, who had two and Jared Goudreau, Eliott Tisdale, and Eric Brenk, who contributed one a piece.

Minot was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Minotauros surpassed its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game. Minot put 26 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.8 it averages per game.

The Minotauros were helped by Jacob Howie, who tallied one goal. Howie scored on the power play 8:42 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Troy Degler picked up the assist. Minot also got a goal from Tyler Shipstad as well. In addition, Minot received assists from Cameron Rowat and Wesley Iverson, who each chipped in one.

Austin Priebe rejected 24 shots on goal for Brookings. The Blizzard registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Brookings, Tisdale was ejected from the game. Brandon Wildung recorded 30 saves for Minot.
