Rio Grande Valley outlasts Odessa, 4-2

The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and the Odessa Jackalopes were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Rio Grande Valley made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Tyler Bruneteau secured the win for the Killer Bees with a goal in the third period.

Rio Grande Valley was paced by Bruneteau, who had one goal and one assist. Bruneteau scored 13:16 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Rio Grande Valley. Ian Janco assisted on the tally.

The 34 shots that the Killer Bees put on net surpassed Rio Grande Valley's average of 25.6 shots per game this season.

Rio Grande Valley additionally got points from Evan Schmidbauer, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Ben Greiner also scored for Rio Grande Valley. More assists for Rio Grande Valley came via Nathan Flynn and Aleksi Luhtalampi, who contributed two a piece.

Odessa was helped by Mathieu Briand, who tallied one goal. Briand scored 15:39 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Joey Palumbo picked up the assist. Odessa also got a goal from Trace Jablin as well. In addition, Odessa received assists from Derek Brown, who had one.

Nick Schmit made 17 saves for the Killer Bees on 19 shots. Rio Grande Valley totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. The Jackalopes' Yoshihiro Kuroiwa stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Odessa totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
