Janesville vanquishes MN Magicians in shootout, 4-3 (3-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Janesville Jets defeated the MN Magicians Magicians in a shootout 4-3 (3-0 SO).

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Janesville got shootout goals from Michael Louria and Jordan Himley.

Drew Callin had a great game for the Jets, netting two goals. Callin's tallies came at 10:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Janesville and 3:54 into the third to make the score 3-2 Janesville.

Janesville pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 38 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:33 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

With 30 shots on target during the contest, the Jets exceeded the 22.1 shots they average per game this year.

Janesville also got a goal from Himley as well. More assists for Janesville came via Kyle Patava, who had two and Carson Vance, Adam Winborg, Louria, and Nick Petrella, who each chipped in one.

MN Magicians was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Magicians had been spending in the box. MN Magicians stifled Janesville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 50 shots that the Magicians put on net surpassed MN Magicians' average of 26.9 shots per game this season.

The Magicians were helped by Colin Hernon, who tallied one goal. Hernon scored 5:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Janesville. Travis Koepke picked up the assist. Nicholas Kuchera also scored for MN Magicians. In addition, MN Magicians received assists from Matt Colford and Cody Milligan, who contributed one a piece.

Brock Kautz made 47 saves for the Jets on 50 shots. Janesville registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. The Jets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Zach Yoder was ejected from the game. Atte Tolvanen recorded 26 saves for MN Magicians. The Magicians registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For MN Magicians, Kris McKinzie was ejected from the game.
