Austin penalty kill dominates in 3-0 defeat of BismarckRiverside Fri, Nov 08, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Bismarck Bobcats failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Austin Bruins shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-0. Austin was paced by Brennan Sanford, who racked up one goal. Sanford scored 11:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Austin. Brian Bachnak provided the assist. The Bruins put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Bismarck to score on any of its seven power plays. Austin's defensive play was more effective than usual against the Bobcats. The Bruins gives up 2.2 goals on average per game. Austin could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Lucas Kohls also scored for Austin. Other players who recorded assists for Austin were Josh Bretner, Guillaume Leclerc, and Kody Reuter, who contributed one a piece. Bismarck excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Bobcats failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 20 pucks on goal after averaging 26.9 shots per game this season. Bismarck's offense operated below it season average. The Bobcats put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Bismarck could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. The Bobcats were led by Brendan Harris, who took three shots. Justin Quale rejected 20 shots on goal for the Bruins. Aaron Nelson recorded 23 saves for Bismarck.
