Minot squeaks by Brookings, 4-2

The game between the Minot Minotauros and the Brookings Blizzard was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Minot emerged with a 4-2 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Beau Ricketts secured the win for the Minotauros with a goal in the second period.

Minot was paced by Jake McCann, who grabbed one goal. McCann scored short handed 11:42 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Minot. The Minotauros were on a disadvantage when Michael Bigelbach went off the ice for hooking. Jon Lizotte assisted on the tally.

Minot outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Minotauros average 1.7 goal per contest. Minot put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.6 it averages per game.

Minot also got points from Troy Degler, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kyle Kruenegel also scored for Minot. More assists for Minot came via Cameron Rowat, Jake Johnson, Max Pernhem, Scott Smoot, and Jacob Howie, who contributed one a piece.

Brookings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Blizzard's offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.7 shots per game they average.

Brookings was helped by Nick DeCenzo, who had one goal. DeCenzo scored 11:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brookings. Wyatt Schmidt picked up the assist. Brookings also got a goal from Conor Andrle as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brookings were Jeff Flicker, Brandon Parker, and Andrew Herlofsky, who each chipped in one.

Brandon Wildung made 34 saves for the Minotauros on 36 shots. Minot incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Austin Priebe rejected 29 shots on goal for the Blizzard. Brookings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
