Michigan vanquishes Port Huron in shootout, 4-3 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Michigan Warriors defeated the Port Huron Fighting Falcons in a shootout 4-3 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured 20 attempts between both teams. Port Huron's shootout goals were scored by Taylor Fernandez and Noah Batis. Michigan also got shootout goals from Jake Hopfner and AJ Marcinek.

Colin Larkin was all over the ice for the Warriors, as he racked up two goals in the win. Larkin's tallies came at 1:23 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 6:46 into the second to make the score 2-2.

The 33 shots that Michigan put on net surpassed the Warriors' average of 26.7 shots per game this season.

Michigan also got a goal from Hopfner as well. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan were Sean Campbell, Zack Szajner, TJ Stuntz, and Nick Govig, who contributed one a piece.

The Fighting Falcons were often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and three majors for 35 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Port Huron had been spending in the box. The Fighting Falcons put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Michigan to score on any of its four power plays. Port Huron put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.5 it averages per game.

The Fighting Falcons were helped by Logan Lambdin, who had one goal. Lambdin scored 2:58 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Port Huron. Max Milosek provided the assist. Port Huron additionally got points from Mitch Maloney, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Bryan Yim also scored for Port Huron. In addition, Port Huron received assists from Nick Le Sage, who had one and Vito Aluia, who had two.

The Warriors' Dillion Kelley stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Michigan ended with 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors. The Warriors ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Wes Guenther was ejected from the game. Max Milosek made 29 saves for Port Huron on 32 shots. The Fighting Falcons registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For Port Huron, Yim was ejected from the game.
