Amarillo holds on for 2-1 win against Rio Grande ValleyState Farm Arena Fri, Oct 25, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Amarillo Bulls held on for a 2-1 victory. A goal by Roman Ammirato put Amarillo up 2-0 in the second period, but Rio Grande Valley pulled to within one on Ben Greiner's tally 15:30 into the third period. The Bulls were led by Ammirato, who registered one goal and one assist. Ammirato scored 2:08 into the second period to make the score Amarillo. Matt Sieckhaus assisted on the tally. Amarillo was often in penalty trouble, totaling four minors and four majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 28.0 minutes per game the Bulls had been spending in the box. Amarillo relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Tyler Gernhofer, Ammirato and Mike Davis took 13 of the team's 25 shots. Amarillo also got a goal from Brendan Vetter as well. In addition, Amarillo received assists from Collin Delia, who had one. The Killer Bees racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and four majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. Rio Grande Valley had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. Other players who recorded assists for Rio Grande Valley were Austin Hoff and Anthony Croston, who each chipped in one. Collin Delia made 21 saves for the Bulls on 22 shots. Amarillo registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Bulls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Stevens was ejected from the game. Nick Schmit recorded 23 saves for the Killer Bees. Rio Grande Valley registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For the Killer Bees, Adam Morrison was ejected from the game. |
