Lone Star vanquishes Rio Grande Valley in shootout, 3-2 (3-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Lone Star Brahmas defeated the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in a shootout 3-2 (3-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Rio Grande Valley's shootout goal was scored by Sean Mostrom. Lone Star's other shootout goals were scored by Alexey Solovyev and RJ Salvato.

The 22 shots that the Brahmas put on net surpassed Lone Star's average of 17.0 shots per game this season.

The Brahmas were helped by Todd Koritzinsky, who tallied one goal. Koritzinsky scored 8:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lone Star. Jan Hudecek assisted on the tally. Lone Star also got a goal from Salvato as well. Other players who recorded assists for Lone Star were Solovyev and Liam Stirtzinger, who each chipped in one.

The Killer Bees put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.9 they average per game.

Rio Grande Valley was helped by Anthony Croston, who finished with one goal. Croston scored on the power play 13:27 into the third period to make the score 2-2. An interference penalty on Will White had put the Killer Bees on the power play. Nathan Flynn picked up the assist. Trent Dillinger also scored for Rio Grande Valley. More assists for Rio Grande Valley came via Ben Greiner, who had one and Dylan Abood, who had two.

Lone Star's Jacob Nehama stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Brahmas incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Olli Kalkaja made 19 saves for Rio Grande Valley on 21 shots. The Killer Bees incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
