Topeka survives Odessa comeback, wins 5-3Ector County Coliseum Fri, Oct 18, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Topeka RoadRunners survived a determined comeback attempt by the Odessa Jackalopes on the way to a 5-3 win. Topeka made the score 5-2 on a goal by Jake Kamrass at 18:50 in the second period, and Odessa got as close as 5-3 when Trace Jablin scored 4:20 into the third period. Ryan Polin was all over the ice for the RoadRunners, as he registered two goals in the win. Polin scored at 4:47 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Topeka and again while 5:50 into the second to make the score 4-1 Topeka. Topeka's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Odessa power plays. The RoadRunners average 25.1 shots on goal per game, but only sent 19 pucks on net against the Jackalopes. Topeka's defensemen played well offensively, producing three goals while racking up eight shots. Topeka also got points from Kamrass, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Topeka also got a goal from Cody Champagne as well. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Tyler Groat, who had two and Michal Uhrik, Shawn Brennan, and Tyler Poulsen, who each chipped in one. Odessa was helped by Chad Guderian, who tallied one goal. Guderian scored 4:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Odessa. Joey Palumbo assisted on the tally. Jefferson Martin also scored for Odessa. In addition, Odessa received assists from Tate Sykes, Leo Lumm, Derek Brown, and David Chavis II, who contributed one a piece. Blake Wojtala recorded 18 saves for the RoadRunners. Topeka incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Eric Hancock made 14 saves for the Jackalopes on 19 shots. Odessa incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
