Topeka survives penalties, beats Odessa, 4-1Ector County Coliseum Thu, Oct 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Odessa Jackalopes failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Topeka RoadRunners shook off a number of penalties to win, 4-1. Topeka was led by Brandon Vuic, who had one goal. Vuic scored 6:23 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Topeka. The RoadRunners put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Odessa to score on any of its seven power plays. Topeka could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game. Topeka also got a goal from Tyler Poulsen as well. More assists for Topeka came via Mike Gornall, Jake Kamrass, Michal Uhrik, Clint Garris, James Ring, and Peter Halash, who contributed one a piece. The Jackalopes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Topeka power plays. Drew Vogler made 18 saves for the RoadRunners on 19 shots. Odessa's starting goalie, Yoshihiro Kuroiwa, made three saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Eric Hancock, who stopped 23 shots. The Jackalopes incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
