Rio Grande Valley outlasts Lone Star, 4-2

The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and the Lone Star Brahmas were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Rio Grande Valley made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

The Killer Bees gained the winning advantage on a goal by Evan Schmidbauer 11:18 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Rio Grande Valley was sparked by JB Baker, who tallied one goal and one assist. Baker scored 2:07 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Rio Grande Valley. Schmidbauer assisted on the tally.

The Killer Bees put 44 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.7 they average per game.

Rio Grande Valley also got points from Schmidbauer, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Nathan Flynn also scored for Rio Grande Valley. In addition, Rio Grande Valley received assists from Ian Janco, Cam Ashley, Ben Greiner, Will Clark, and Aleksi Luhtalampi, who contributed one a piece.

Lone Star did not challenge the opposing goaltender, taking only four shots on net to force two saves. Team.mascot's final shot tally was well below the team's average of 14.2 pucks on net per game.

The Brahmas were helped by Liam Stirtzinger, who registered one goal. Stirtzinger scored 14:56 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Rio Grande Valley. Jan Hudecek picked up the assist. Lone Star also got a goal from Matt Lison as well. Other players who recorded assists for Lone Star were Paul Fregeau and AJ Duggan, who each chipped in one.

Olli Kalkaja made two saves for Rio Grande Valley on four shots. The Killer Bees incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Sean Keating rejected 40 shots on goal for Lone Star. The Brahmas incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
