Fairbanks' comeback falls short, Coulee Region wins 4-2

The Coulee Region Chill came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, but did just enough to escape with a 4-2 victory.

Coulee Region led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Chill's Mac Jansen's scored at 17:28 in the first period to put Coulee Region up 3-0.

Jansen had a great game for the Chill, netting two goals.

Coulee Region's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Fairbanks power plays. The Chill relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Eddie Matsushima, Richard Zehnal and Jansen took 13 of the team's 25 shots.

Coulee Region also got points from Matsushima, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Coulee Region also got a goal from Gordon Wells as well. More assists for Coulee Region came via Adam Lovick, who had two and Sean Kalbak, James McGing, and Brogran Rafferty, who contributed one a piece.

Fairbanks managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Ice Dogs wound up below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Fairbanks put 40 shots on net during the contest, more than the 33.5 it averages per game.

The Ice Dogs were helped by Brett Gervais, who racked up one goal. Gervais scored 19:46 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Coulee Region. Doug Rose picked up the assist. Colton Wolter also scored for Fairbanks. Other players who recorded assists for Fairbanks were Nick Hinz, Kyle Lee, and Lonnie Clary, who each chipped in one.

Coulee Region's Adam Carlson stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Chill incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kevin Aldridge rejected 21 shots on goal for Fairbanks.
