Flynn lifts Rio Grande Valley over Odessa, 5-2

Nathan Flynn was all over the ice for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, as he tallied two goals in Rio Grande Valley's 5-2 win over the Odessa Jackalopes.

Flynn found the back of the net 1:46 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Rio Grande Valley and again while 12:48 into the second to make the score 3-1 Rio Grande Valley.

The Killer Bees stifled Odessa's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Rio Grande Valley surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Killer Bees have scored at the pace of 2.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Rio Grande Valley put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.3 it averages per game.

Rio Grande Valley also got points from Evan Schmidbauer, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Rio Grande Valley also got a goal from Aleksi Luhtalampi as well. More assists for Rio Grande Valley came via Ian Janco, JB Baker, Anthony Croston, and Tyler Bruneteau, who each chipped in one and Ben Greiner and Will Clark, who contributed two a piece.

With 27 shots on target during the contest, the Jackalopes exceeded the 19.5 shots they average per game this year.

Odessa was helped by Mathieu Briand, who tallied two goals. Briand scored the first of his two goals at 4:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Odessa. Robb Stautz picked up the assist. Briand's next tally made the score 3-2 Rio Grande Valley with 3:44 left in the second period. Jefferson Martin provided the assist.

The Killer Bees' Olli Kalkaja stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Rio Grande Valley totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Yoshihiro Kuroiwa rejected 29 shots on goal for the Jackalopes. Odessa totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-4 on the power play. For the Jackalopes, David Chavis II was ejected from the game.
