Johnstown survives Springfield comeback, wins 3-2

The Johnstown Tomahawks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Springfield Jr. Blues on the way to a 3-2 win.

A goal by Omar Mullan put Johnstown up 3-1 in the second period, but Springfield pulled to within one on Max Kalter's tally 17:46 into the third period.

Mullan had a great game for the Tomahawks, netting two goals.

Johnstown relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Mullan, Brandon Reinholz and Tyler Basham took 11 of the team's 20 shots.

Collin Finkhouse also scored for Johnstown. More assists for Johnstown came via Ryan McNeely, Mitch Hall, Shane Cuckovich, and Shane Bednard, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. Blues were helped by Alex Baskakov, who had one goal. Baskakov scored on the power play 6:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. A hooking penalty on Matthew Meier had put Springfield on the power play. Patrick Curry assisted on the tally. In addition, Springfield received assists from Davis Dekorte and Joshua Lammon, who contributed one a piece.

Alex Okicki recorded 20 saves for the Tomahawks. Johnstown incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Sandro Aeschlimann made 17 saves for the Jr. Blues on 20 shots. Springfield incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
