Soo vanquishes Port Huron in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Soo Eagles defeated the Port Huron Fighting Falcons in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams.

Soo overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Eagles trailed 2-1 after a goal by Port Huron's Logan Lambdin at 15:39 in the second period. Soo tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Mike Sabatini at 16:52 in the second period.

The Eagles put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Fighting Falcons to score on any of their five power plays. The 42 shots that Soo put on net surpassed the Eagles' average of 25.3 shots per game this season.

Soo was helped by Bruno Birzitis, who registered one goal. Birzitis scored 3:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Soo. Filip Winkler picked up the assist. In addition, Soo received assists from Michael Caruso and AJ Jarosz, who contributed one a piece.

Port Huron's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Soo power plays. With 37 shots on target during the contest, the Fighting Falcons exceeded the 27.3 shots they average per game this year.

Port Huron also got a goal from Matt Jones as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Huron were Jon Hall, Bryce VanHorn, and Joey Lindberg, who each chipped in one.

The Eagles' Colin Brennan stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Soo incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Max Milosek rejected 39 shots on goal for Port Huron. The Fighting Falcons incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
