Aberdeen survives Brookings comeback, wins 5-3

The Brookings Blizzard almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Aberdeen Wings managed to pull out a 5-3 win in the end.

Aberdeen led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Wings' Jake Horton's scored on the power play at 6:22 in the second period to put Aberdeen up 3-0.

The Wings were paced by Matt Brettingen, who grabbed one goal. Brettingen scored 2:00 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Aberdeen. Bjorn Sigurdarson provided the assist.

The 28 shots that Aberdeen put on net surpassed the Wings' average of 21.2 shots per game this season. Aberdeen surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Wings have scored at the pace of 2.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Aberdeen's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Aberdeen also got points from Horton, who also had one goal and one assist and Lennart Palausch, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Jordan Heller also scored for Aberdeen. More assists for Aberdeen came via Ryan Cook, TJ Roo, and Dillon Eichstadt, who each chipped in one.

Brookings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 30 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.6 shots per game it averages.

The Blizzard were helped by Jack Stang, who racked up one goal. Stang scored 8:16 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Aberdeen. Brookings additionally got points from Evan Hesse, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Brookings also got a goal from Brandon Parker as well. In addition, Brookings received assists from Tommy Hajicek and Beau Michaud, who contributed one a piece.

The Wings' Henry Dill stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Aberdeen totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Miguel Genest made 23 saves for Brookings on 28 shots. The Blizzard totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
