Aberdeen outlasts Topeka, 1-0Schwan SR-1 Sat, Sep 21, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Aberdeen Wings used a goal by Jake Horton and a superb defensive effort to beat the Topeka RoadRunners, 1-0. The assists on the winning goal came courtesy of Dillon Eichstadt and Bjorn Sigurdarson.Aberdeen was led by Horton, who tallied one goal. Horton scored on the power play 19 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Aberdeen. Eichstadt picked up the assist. The Wings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Aberdeen relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Eichstadt, Jordan Heller and Horton took 11 of the team's 19 shots. The Wings' defensemen bolstered Aberdeen's offensive attack, as they bombarded Blake Wojtala with 10 shots. Topeka was held below its usual level of production. The RoadRunners put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Topeka relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Andrew Roye, Peter Halash and James Ring took 12 of the team's 21 shots. Henry Dill rejected 21 shots on goal for the Wings. Aberdeen incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Wojtala recorded 18 saves for the RoadRunners. Topeka incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. |
