Port Huron vanquishes Corpus Christi in shootout, 4-3 (2-0 SO)Schwan SR-1 Sat, Sep 21, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Port Huron Fighting Falcons defeated the Corpus Christi IceRays in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO). The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Port Huron also got a shootout goal from Bryce VanHorn.The Fighting Falcons excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Port Huron was helped by Logan Lambdin, who registered one goal. Lambdin scored on the power play 17:09 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Port Huron. The Fighting Falcons had taken the advantage when Corpus Christi's Eric Purcell got sent off for hooking. Reed Scahill assisted on the tally. Noah Batis also scored for Port Huron. More assists for Port Huron came via Jonathan Kopacka, Alex Archibald, and Mitch Maloney, who each chipped in one. The IceRays' offense was clicking better than usual and put 31 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.5 shots per game they average. Corpus Christi was helped by Joe Costello, who tallied one goal. Costello scored 6:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Corpus Christi. Corpus Christi also got a goal from Tony Roisum as well. In addition, Corpus Christi received assists from Grant Hutton, Mikkel Hojbjerg, Jake Durflinger, and Kyle Froese, who contributed one a piece. Alex Blankenburg rejected 28 shots on goal for Port Huron. The Fighting Falcons incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Scott Albertoni recorded 23 saves for the IceRays. Corpus Christi incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
