GAME RECAP

Huge game by Liljegren boosts Fairbanks over Springfield, 4-1

Schwan SR-1    Wed, Sep 18, 2013

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs' Viktor Liljegren had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 4-1 win over the Springfield Jr. Blues.

Liljegren scored on the power play at 2:50 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 7:08 into the second to make the score 3-1 Fairbanks.

Fairbanks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Springfield power plays. By firing 38 shots on goal, the Ice Dogs exceeded the 30.3 shots they average per game this year.

Brett Gervais also scored for Fairbanks. In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Wyatt Ege and Chandler Madry, who each chipped in one and Doug Rose and Colton Wolter, who contributed two a piece.

Fairbanks' defense shut down Springfield's forwards for much of the game, and the Jr. Blues got off only 13 shots during the contest.

Springfield was led by Joshua Lammon, who scored the team's only goal. Lammon scored 8:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. Kyle Shreve provided the assist.

The Ice Dogs' Patrick Munson stopped 12 shots out of the 13 that he faced. Fairbanks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Stefanos Lekkas recorded 34 saves for the Jr. Blues. Springfield incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
