Lone Star downs Rio Grande Valley in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Lone Star Brahmas pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on a clutch goal by AJ Duggan.

Lone Star overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Brahmas fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Rio Grande Valley's Sami Pokka at 7:24 in the third period. Lone Star tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Matt Lison at 16:10 in the third period.

The Brahmas got the win on the strength of a great game by Duggan, who had two goals and two assists. Duggan scored the first of his two goals at 14:39 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Rio Grande Valley. Alex Dagnal provided the assist. Duggan's next tally made the score 4-3 Lone Star with 18:45 left in overtime. Jan Hudecek picked up the assist.

Lone Star put 21 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.0 it averages per game.

More assists for Lone Star came via Alexey Solovyev, who had two.

The Killer Bees put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Brahmas to score on any of their three power plays.

Rio Grande Valley was led by Anthony Croston, who finished with one goal and one assist. Croston scored 56 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Rio Grande Valley. Nathan Flynn assisted on the tally. Rio Grande Valley also got a goal from Ben Greiner as well. Other players who recorded assists for Rio Grande Valley were Aleksi Luhtalampi, Austin Hoff, Tyler Bruneteau, and Dylan Abood, who contributed one a piece.

Mattias Soderqvist recorded 21 saves for Lone Star. The Brahmas ended with 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. Olli Kalkaja made 17 saves for the Killer Bees on 21 shots. Rio Grande Valley totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
