Pikes Peak Miners 18U uses shootout to best California Titans 18U, 4-3

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Pikes Peak Miners 18U defeated California Titans 18U in a shootout 4-3.

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. California Titans 18U got a shootout goal from Hunter Stanley. In addition to the clincher, Pikes Peak Miners 18U got a shootout goal from David Dziezawiec.

Pikes Peak Miners 18U pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes.

Pikes Peak Miners 18U excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. California Titans 18U was unable to stop Pikes Peak Miners 18U from sending pucks towards the net, and Pikes Peak Miners 18U eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The defensemen of Pikes Peak Miners 18U were also effective in California Titans 18U's zone, and came away with two goals.

Pikes Peak Miners 18U was helped by Christian Gums, who registered one goal. Gums scored 11:41 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Evan Butcher provided the assist. Dziezawiec also scored for Pikes Peak Miners 18U. Other players who recorded assists for Pikes Peak Miners 18U were Jeremy Solat and Luke Slouka, who each chipped in one.

California Titans 18U put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pikes Peak Miners 18U to score on any of its eight power plays.

California Titans 18U was helped by Teemu Runsala, who tallied one goal and one assist. Runsala scored 1:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 California Titans 18U. Samu Suominen picked up the assist. California Titans 18U also got points from Eric Weber, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Suominen, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, California Titans 18U received assists from Corey Pelone, who had one and Stanley, who had two.

Evan Smith rejected 26 shots on goal for Pikes Peak Miners 18U. Grant Payne recorded 28 saves for California Titans 18U. California Titans 18U incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
