Lansing Capitals 18U beats West Michigan Hounds 18U 4-2 after comeback scare

Lansing Capitals 18U survived a determined comeback attempt by West Michigan Hounds 18U on the way to a 4-2 win.

A goal by Ronald Hein put Lansing Capitals 18U up 4-1 in the third period, but West Michigan Hounds 18U pulled to within two on Evan Bennett's tally 15:11 into the third period.

Lansing Capitals 18U was paced by Zachary Roberts, who racked up one goal. Roberts scored on the power play 2:36 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Lansing Capitals 18U. Lansing Capitals 18U had taken the advantage when West Michigan Hounds 18U's Cameron Clarke got sent off for tripping. Brad Reitter assisted on the tally.

Lansing Capitals 18U put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow West Michigan Hounds 18U to score on any of its five power plays. Lansing Capitals 18U could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Sean Smalley also scored for Lansing Capitals 18U. In addition, Lansing Capitals 18U received assists from Kyle Keeder, who had two and Alex Husak, Theodore Waddell, Trenton Kulczyk, and Alexander Rowe, who each chipped in one.

West Michigan Hounds 18U also got a goal from Michael Wood as well. Other players who recorded assists for West Michigan Hounds 18U were Zander Sorenson, who had one.

Jacob Gwillim rejected 17 shots on goal for Lansing Capitals 18U. Lansing Capitals 18U registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Hunter Vorva recorded 23 saves for West Michigan Hounds 18U. West Michigan Hounds 18U incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
