Texas Tornado 18U pulls away in second, rolls over Detroit Falcons 18U, 6-2

Detroit Falcons 18U allowed Texas Tornado 18U to net three goals during the second period and fell, 6-2.

Texas Tornado 18U got the win behind a great game by Brennen Miller, who had two goals and one assist. Miller scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Texas Tornado 18U earned a power play opportunity when Steven Fowler was put in the box for head contact. Nate Sepeda picked up the assist. Miller's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Texas Tornado 18U with 16:15 left in the second period. Joey Sardina provided the assist.

Texas Tornado 18U forced Detroit Falcons 18U's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 48 shots and forcing 42 saves. Corbin Kaczperski made 35 stops and Ryan Running made seven. Texas Tornado 18U put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Detroit Falcons 18U to score on any of its four power plays.

Texas Tornado 18U also got points from Sepeda, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Jack Moore, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Austin Cox also scored for Texas Tornado 18U. Other players who recorded assists for Texas Tornado 18U were Colin Whitt, who had two and Caleb Clark, Chris Lugg, and Derek Gilliam, who each chipped in one.

Detroit Falcons 18U struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Detroit Falcons 18U was helped by Alex Schlueter, who registered one goal. Schlueter scored 7:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Detroit Falcons 18U. Mason Carosella assisted on the tally. Detroit Falcons 18U also got a goal from Kyle Schnettler as well. In addition, Detroit Falcons 18U received assists from Garrett Medina and Luke Burchart, who contributed one a piece.

Tristan Weinholzer made 18 saves for Texas Tornado 18U on 20 shots. Texas Tornado 18U incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
