Minnesota beats Breezy Point 5-4 after comeback scare

The Breezy Point North Stars tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Minnesota Flying Aces would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

Minnesota made the score 5-3 on a goal by Jake Mullendore at 9:13 in the third period, and Breezy Point got as close as 5-4 when Nick Manney scored 11:15 into the third period.

The Flying Aces got the win on the strength of a great game by Eric Cruickshank, who had two goals and two assists. Cruickshank scored the first of his two goals at 14:01 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Minnesota. Nick Tolin picked up the assist. Cruickshank's next tally made the score 4-2 Minnesota with 16:14 left in the third period. Tyler Gallagher provided the assist.

Minnesota kept the North Stars' goalie busy throughout the game, and Joey Bergquist made 32 saves on 37 shots. The Flying Aces bested their season scoring average. Minnesota has scored at the pace of 2.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

Minnesota also had goals scored by Vladimir Marchenko and Eric Rogorzenski, who scored one goal each. More assists for Minnesota came via Justin Nielsen, who had two and Bradee Thompson, Jack Anderholm, and Patrick Anderson, who contributed one a piece.

Breezy Point additionally got points from Alex Mimmack, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Blake Neumann, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Crosby Steen also scored for Breezy Point. In addition, Breezy Point received assists from Bo Borowski, Blair Seitz, Isak Larson, Benji Smieja, Jake Kline, and Kyle Whipple, who each chipped in one.

Anderson rejected 19 shots on goal for the Flying Aces. Minnesota incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Flying Aces ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and AJ Gullickson was ejected from the game. Breezy Point incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
