Cincinnati shrugs off penalties, upends Battle Creek, 5-0SportsPlus Cincinnati Sat, Feb 22, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Battle Creek Revolution failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Cincinnati Swords shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-0. Cincinnati was sparked by Thomas Clayton, who finished with one goal. Clayton scored on the power play 4:58 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Cincinnati. The Swords had gotten the advantage when Battle Creek's Tayten Crockett was sent off for tripping. Tanner Bennet picked up the assist. Cincinnati put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Revolution to score on any of their six power plays. The Swords kept Battle Creek's goalie busy throughout the game, and Zach Kooi made 27 saves on 32 shots. Cincinnati also got points from Nikita Korotkov, who also registered two goals and two assists to lead the team in points and Hunter Schneider, who also had one goal and one assist. Cincinnati also got a goal from Aaron Storch as well. More assists for Cincinnati came via Andrew Bond and Luke McCammant, who each chipped in one and Kurt Halbach and Emil Sundstrom, who contributed two a piece. Joe Sheppard rejected 16 shots on goal for Cincinnati. The Swords incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Revolution incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
