Malkmus leads yTopeka over xSugar Land, 11-2

The yTopeka Capitals' Tommy Malkmus had a big offensive game, scoring four goals and contributing two assists in his team's 11-2 win over the xSugar Land Imperials.

Malkmus' first goal came 14:35 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:40 into the second, at 14:42 into the second, and at 2:34 into the third.

yTopeka pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 33 penalty minutes.

The Capitals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. yTopeka forced xSugar Land goalie Colton Anderson to work between the pipes, taking 73 shots. The Capitals surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, yTopeka averages 4.9 goals per contest.

yTopeka also got points from Connor Nicholas, who also registered one goal and two assists, Hardijs Kupaks, who also racked up two goals and four assists to lead the team in points, Kole Hudson, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Georgy Ostapchuk, who also had two goals and two assists. yTopeka also got a goal from Casey LaBonte as well. More assists for yTopeka came via Nick Rizzo, who had two and Luke Thom, Austin Petrie, and Dante Juris, who each chipped in one.

The Imperials forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. xSugar Land surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. The Imperials' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in seven goals to the Capitals' power play unit.

xSugar Land was helped by Dustin Parman, who registered one goal. Parman scored 10:25 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Dylan Edwards assisted on the tally. Alex Tilman also scored for xSugar Land. Other players who recorded assists for xSugar Land were Matthew Winkle, who had one.

Mike McElroy recorded 15 saves for yTopeka. The Imperials' Anderson stopped 62 shots out of the 73 that he faced.
