Toledo uses shootout to best Pittsburgh, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Toledo Cherokee defeated the Pittsburgh Vengeance in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams.

Toledo came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cherokee trailed 2-0 after a power play goal by Pittsburgh's Cody Black at 10:15 in the first period. Toledo knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Dominic Pisanti at 5:56 in the second period.

The Cherokee were helped by Brody Duncan, who registered one goal. Duncan scored 2:10 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Pittsburgh. Zachary Armstrong picked up the assist. In addition, Toledo received assists from Noah Szenderski, Tyler Zalecki, and Xavier Sudlow, who each chipped in one.

Sami Pokka also scored for Pittsburgh. Other players who recorded assists for Pittsburgh were Eli Lynn and Oskar Thorsen, who contributed one a piece.

Nate Gay made 15 saves for Toledo on 17 shots. The Cherokee incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Jason Kumpfmiller recorded 20 saves for the Vengeance. Pittsburgh incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
