Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wisconsin Whalers defeated the Peoria Mustangs in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Peoria got a shootout goal from Andrew Scofield. In addition to the clincher, Wisconsin got a shootout goal from Kaleb Morley.The Whalers overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Wisconsin fell behind 3-1 after a goal by the Mustangs' Sam Turner at 14:07 in the second period. The Whalers tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Zach Johnson at 18:20 in the third period. Wisconsin was sparked by Adam Alcott, who grabbed one goal. Alcott scored 5:25 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Clayton Janecke picked up the assist. Peoria was unable to stop the Whalers from sending pucks towards the net, and Wisconsin eventually piled up 60 shots on goal. Wisconsin also got points from Ryan Martin, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wisconsin were Kevin Stone, who had two and Dan Addie and Tim Tarvis, who each chipped in one. The Mustangs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Whalers to score on any of their five power plays. Peoria did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Mustangs average 5.1 goals per game. Scofield also scored for Peoria. In addition, Peoria received assists from Nathan Chasteen, who had two and Marshall Gevers, Blake Ortman, and Joshua Hart, who contributed one a piece. Connor Fissel made 19 saves for Wisconsin on 22 shots. The Whalers ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Marc Hayton rejected 56 shots on goal for Peoria. The Mustangs totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
