Dallas squeaks by Topeka, 4-2

The Dallas Jr. Stars and the Topeka Capitals were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Dallas made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Tommy Stock at 12:40 of the third period.

Stock had a great game for the Jr. Stars, netting two goals.

Dallas pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes.

The Jr. Stars stifled Topeka's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Dallas additionally got points from Jake Gevaart, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Dallas also got a goal from Colin South as well. In addition, Dallas received assists from Blake McIntyre, who had two and Chris Mallon and Raurie Petrich, who each chipped in one.

The Capitals were held below their usual level of production. Topeka averages 4.6 goals per game. Dallas was unable to stop the Capitals from sending pucks towards the net, and Topeka eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The Capitals was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on 10 chances with a man advantage. Topeka found itself short handed often, totaling 34 penalty minutes and allowing 12 power plays.

The Capitals were helped by Kole Hudson, who registered one goal. Hudson scored 1:15 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Trenton Faber assisted on the tally. Hardijis Kupaks also scored for Topeka. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Nick Rizzo, who had one and Joe Stoneburner, who had two.

Chris Mallon made 33 saves for the Jr. Stars on 35 shots. Jude Hull recorded 26 saves for Topeka.
