Pittsburgh uses early goal to top Metro, 4-2

Thomas Leistner scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Pittsburgh Vengeance held off the challenges of the Metro Jets in a tough 4-2 win.

Pittsburgh took over the lead for good with a goal by Leistner at 13:03 in the first period. Cody Black picked up the assist.

The Vengeance got the win with help from a great game by Sami Pokka, who had two goals and one assist. Pokka scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:39 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh had gotten the advantage when Metro's Cooper McLean was sent off for checking from behind. Oskar Thorsen assisted on the tally. Pokka's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Pittsburgh with 48 seconds left in the third period. Tom Diffendal picked up the assist.

Pittsburgh also got points from Black, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Pittsburgh received assists from Matthew Bour and Eli Lynn, who each chipped in one.

The Jets were helped by Kyle Shreve, who finished with one goal. Shreve scored on the power play 8:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Metro. A cross checking penalty on Gavin Cummings had put Metro on the power play. Alex Holm provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Matt Dempsey, who had one.

The Vengeance's Jason Kumpfmiller stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Pittsburgh incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Trevor Kalinowski rejected 26 shots on goal for the Jets. Metro incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
