xFlint outlasts Cleveland, 4-2

The xFlint Junior Generals and the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but xFlint made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Mark McGee at 7:03 of the second period.

Brett Leppek was all over the ice for the Junior Generals, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Leppek scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:12 into the first period to make the score 2-1 xFlint. xFlint had gotten the advantage when Cleveland's Mike Palasics was sent off for checking from behind. Zach Koonce picked up the assist. Leppek's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 xFlint with 3:39 left in the third period. Nicholas Gnagni assisted on the tally.

The Junior Generals' penalty kill excelled, as xFlint gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Junior Generals could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

xFlint also got points from Gnagni, who also had one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for xFlint were Jacob Drinkard, Caleb Gannelli, and Jacob Lainesse, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Lumberjacks were helped by Stefan Horgas, who registered one goal. Horgas scored on the power play 1:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cleveland. Cleveland earned a power play opportunity when Leppek was put in the box for checking from behind. Jared Johnson picked up the assist. Cleveland additionally got points from Avery Huibregtse, who also tallied one goal and one assist.

Anders Franke recorded 27 saves for xFlint. The Junior Generals registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Tyler Jansen made 24 saves for the Jr. Lumberjacks on 28 shots. Cleveland incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
