Topeka pulls away in second, rolls over Sugar Land, 8-3

The Topeka Capitals used a five-goal second period to put away the Sugar Land Imperials, 8-3.

Georgy Ostapchuk was all over the ice for Topeka, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Ostapchuk scored the first of his two goals at 3:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka. Trenton Faber picked up the assist. Ostapchuk's next tally made the score 4-0 Topeka with 12:42 left in the second period. Hardijis Kupaks provided the assist.

The Capitals' penalty kill excelled, as Topeka gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Sugar Land was unable to stop the Capitals from sending pucks towards the net, and Topeka eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. The Capitals surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Topeka has scored at the pace of 4.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

Topeka also got points from Nolan Stanley, who also registered three goals and one assist and Faber, who also racked up one goal and four assists to lead the team in points. Topeka also had goals scored by Austin Petrie and Benton Deanovich, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Casey LaBonte, Kole Hudson, Jaydn Munnelly, and Dante Juris, who each chipped in two.

The Imperials' offense rang up 36 shots on the Capitals' net.

Sugar Land was led by Matthew Winkle, who registered two goals and one assist. Winkle scored the first of his two goals at 2:46 into the third period to make the score 6-2 Topeka. Alex Tilman picked up the assist. Winkle's next tally made the score 6-3 Topeka with 17:01 left in the third period. Tilman provided the assist. Sugar Land also got a goal from Cole Sharrah as well. In addition, Sugar Land received assists from Benjamin Wilkins, who had one.

Mike McElroy made 33 saves for Topeka on 36 shots. The Capitals incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Imperials' Colton Anderson stopped 36 shots out of the 44 that he faced. Sugar Land incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
