Leppek's goals lift Flint to 2-1 victory over MetroIceland Arena Sat, Jan 11, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Flint Junior Generals relied on the scoring touch of Brett Leppek, who netted two goals, to beat the Metro Jets, 2-1. Leppek found the back of the net short handed 12:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Flint and again while 14:43 into the third to make the score 2-1 Flint.Metro was stymied by Flint netminder Anders Franke, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. Franke managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.1 prior to the game. The Junior Generals put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jets to score on any of their three power plays. Flint could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Junior Generals put an average of 4.6 pucks into the net per game. Flint's offense rang up 32 shots on Metro's net. Other players who recorded assists for Flint were Conner McGovern, who had one and Justin Fisher, who had two. The Jets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Flint power plays. Metro was led by Kyle Shreve, who scored the team's only goal. Shreve scored 7:41 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Matt Dempsey assisted on the tally. The Junior Generals ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. The Jets' Trevor Kalinowski stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Metro ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
