Cincinnati boosted by Sheppard's play in net, beats St. Louis 2-1

The Cincinnati Swords relied on the sparkling performance of Joe Sheppard in net to grab a 2-1 win against the St. Louis Jr. Blues.

Cincinnati was led by Thomas Clayton, who registered one goal. Clayton scored 19:40 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cincinnati. Robert Gentile assisted on the tally.

The Swords' offense rang up 36 shots on St. Louis' net.

Cincinnati also got a goal from Hunter Schneider as well. More assists for Cincinnati came via Andrew Bond, who had one.

The Jr. Blues forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. St. Louis surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Jr. Blues excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. St. Louis could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Jr. Blues average 4.0 goals per game. Cincinnati was unable to stop St. Louis from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Blues eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

St. Louis was led by Andrew Kovacich, who scored the team's only goal. Kovacich scored short handed 18:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Louis. The Jr. Blues played down a man on Kyle Meeh's tripping. Adam Roeder picked up the assist.

Sheppard rejected 39 shots on goal for the Swords. Cincinnati ended with 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors. Cooper Cothran recorded 34 saves for St. Louis. The Jr. Blues registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
