Chicago beats Peoria 4-3 after comeback scare

The Chicago Junior Bulldogs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Peoria Mustangs on the way to a 4-3 win.

Chicago made the score 4-1 on a goal by John Godfrey at 16:19 in the second period, and Peoria got as close as 4-3 when Andrew Scofield scored 9:51 into the third period.

In a losing effort, the Mustangs were sparked by Sam Turner, who grabbed two goals. Turner scored the first of his two goals at 9:57 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Nathan Chasteen provided the assist. Turner's next tally made the score 4-2 Chicago with 11:40 left in the third period. Peoria had gained a power play chance when Toms Taurins was whistled for slashing. Chasteen picked up the assist.

The Junior Bulldogs were helped by Jarret Walt, who tallied one goal. Walt scored 10:36 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Chicago. Matt Blaszkiewicz provided the assist. Chicago also had goals scored by Vince Bartkowiak and Matt Kostopoulos, who scored one goal each. In addition, Chicago received assists from Daniel Marotz, Luke Morin, Tyler Dalton, Henry Hearon, Nathan Iaciancio, and Zac Edwards, who contributed one a piece.

The Mustangs did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Peoria puts an average of 5.2 pucks into the net per game. The Mustangs' offense rang up 42 shots on Chicago's net.

More assists for Peoria came via Chance Homerin, who had one and Austin Ziakas, who had two.

Michael Paku recorded 39 saves for the Junior Bulldogs. Chicago incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Peoria's Marc Hayton stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Mustangs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
