In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Granite City Lumberjacks escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Flying Aces. Granite City gained the winning advantage on a goal by Brett Love 15:50 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Minnesota's power play was ineffective against the Lumberjacks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Granite City was paced by Love, who tallied one goal. The Lumberjacks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Granite City surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Lumberjacks' offense operated below they season average. Granite City averages 5.5 goals per game. The Flying Aces were unable to stop the Lumberjacks from sending pucks towards the net, and Granite City eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Team could not crack Minnesota's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Granite City also had goals scored by Aidan Verbeke and Tim Brown, who scored one goal each. In addition, Granite City received assists from Gavin Porter, Hunter Schneider, Drew Otto, and Christian Mohs, who each chipped in one. The Flying Aces' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Minnesota finished with 22 penalty minutes. The Flying Aces were helped by Vladimir Marchenko, who registered one goal. Marchenko scored on the power play 8:17 into the first period to make the score 1-1. An interference penalty on David Horsmann had put Minnesota on the power play. Eric Rogorzenski provided the assist. Minnesota additionally got points from Eric Cruickshank, who also had one goal and one assist. Minnesota also got a goal from Anthony Martinez as well. More assists for Minnesota came via Jordan Forschen, who had one. Austin Wilson made 19 saves for the Lumberjacks on 21 shots. For Granite City, Otto was ejected from the game. Jaxson Gosnell rejected 28 shots on goal for the Flying Aces.
