GAME RECAP

Childs nets hat trick, leads Twin City to 7-2 win over Wisconsin

Romeoville Rink 2    Mon, Nov 25, 2013

A hat trick by Jace Childs was the highlight in Steel's 7-2 win against the Wisconsin Whalers.

Childs' first goal came 18:49 into the first period. He then added goals at 9:00 into the third and at 19:58 into the third.

The Twin City Steel pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 36 penalty minutes.

Twin City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wisconsin to score on any of its seven power plays. The Steel kept the Whalers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michal Marcinek made 26 saves on 33 shots. Twin City found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Steel average 3.5 goals per contest.

Twin City also got points from Tyler Lodin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Ben Ihrie, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Alexander Konnov, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Twin City were Dylan Lincoln, Mathias Ahman, and Isaac Hale, who each chipped in one.

Wisconsin's penalty kill managed to stymie Twin City's power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down. The Whalers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wisconsin was led by Zack Johnson, who registered one goal. Johnson scored short handed 9:41 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A too many men call on Axsel Campbell put the Whalers on the penalty kill. Ryan Martin assisted on the tally. Jason Hoehn also scored for Wisconsin. More assists for Wisconsin came via Mitch Riese, Kevin Stone, and Jon Skarlis, who contributed one a piece.

Jackson Germaine rejected 19 shots on goal for the Steel.
