Breezy Point survives penalties, beats Michigan, 5-1

The Michigan Mountain Cats failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Breezy Point North Stars shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-1.

Breezy Point was paced by Kole Kobel, who tallied one goal. Kobel scored 7:16 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Breezy Point. Blair Seitz provided the assist.

The North Stars forced Michigan goalie Colton Lewicki to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Breezy Point's goal total was higher than its season average. The North Stars average 2.3 goals per game. Breezy Point was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on nine chances with a man advantage.

Breezy Point additionally got points from Crosby Steen, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Blake Neumann also scored for Breezy Point. Other players who recorded assists for Breezy Point were Jon Plaszcz, Benji Smieja, and Kyle Whipple, who contributed one a piece.

The Mountain Cats stifled the North Stars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Michigan could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Mountain Cats were led by Kade Morrison, who scored the team's only goal. Morrison scored on the power play 9:55 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Breezy Point. A boarding penalty on Steen had put Michigan on the power play. Austin Buchholz assisted on the tally.

Breezy Point's Troy Pierce stopped 19 shots out of the 20 that he faced. The North Stars incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Colton Lewicki made 36 saves for the Mountain Cats on 41 shots. Michigan registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
