The Granite City Lumberjacks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Wisconsin Whalers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3. Wisconsin made the score 4-2 on a goal by Jason Hoehn at 7:21 in the third period, and Granite City got as close as 4-3 when Drew Otto scored 19:02 into the third period. Hoehn was all over the ice for the Whalers, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Hoehn scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 57 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wisconsin. Wisconsin had gotten the advantage when the Lumberjacks' David Horsmann was sent off for hooking. Hoehn's next tally on the power play made the score Wisconsin with 12:39 left in the third period. The Whalers earned a power play opportunity when Christian Mohs was put in the box for hooking. Ryan Martin picked up the assist. Wisconsin's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Wisconsin also had goals scored by Clayton Janecke and Dan Addie, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Wisconsin were D.J. Mussey, Zack Johnson, Tim Tarvis, and Adam Alcott, who contributed one a piece. Granite City racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game the Lumberjacks had been spending in the box. Granite City's offense operated below it season average. The Lumberjacks put an average of 5.4 pucks into the net per game. Roy Grandov also scored for Granite City. More assists for Granite City came via Brady Berhardson, Mitchell Gwost, Tobias Gabrielsen, Brett Love, and Zac Sikich, who each chipped in one. Connor Fissel rejected 27 shots on goal for the Whalers. Wisconsin incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Austin Wilson recorded 25 saves for Granite City. The Lumberjacks registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Granite City ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Grandov was ejected from the game.
