Flint penalty kill dominates in 2-1 defeat of Metro

The Metro Jets failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Flint Junior Generals shook off a number of penalties to win, 2-1.

Flint was led by Brett Leppek, who racked up one goal. Leppek scored on the power play 18:58 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Flint. The Junior Generals earned a power play opportunity when James Roznowski was put in the box for roughing. Oliver Lindstrom assisted on the tally.

Flint's offense operated below it season average. The Junior Generals put an average of 5.1 pucks into the net per game. Flint forced Metro goalie Davide Mantovani to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. The Junior Generals had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances.

Flint also got a goal from Conor Durgan as well. In addition, Flint received assists from Conner McGovern, Mark McGee, and Justin Fisher, who each chipped in one.

The the Jets penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. Metro had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Jets were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances.

Metro was led by Luke Thom, who scored the team's only goal. Thom scored on the power play 6:37 into the third period to make the score 1-1. The Jets had gotten the advantage when Flint's Josh Koepplinger was sent off for hooking. Roznowski picked up the assist.

The Junior Generals' Anders Franke stopped 24 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Flint incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Mantovani rejected 42 shots on goal for Metro. For the Jets, Carter Reid was ejected from the game.
