Scofield's goals lift Peoria to 6-2 victory over St. LouisAffton Ice Rink Sat, Nov 16, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Peoria Mustangs relied on the scoring touch of Andrew Scofield, who netted two goals, to beat the St. Louis Jr. Blues, 6-2. Scofield scored on the power play at 18:18 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Peoria and again while short handed 14:29 into the third to make the score 6-2 Peoria.St. Louis' power play was ineffective against Peoria's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The the Mustangs penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. Peoria surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Mustangs stifled the Jr. Blues' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Peoria forced St. Louis goalie Cooper Cothran to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Peoria also got points from Brennan Anderson, who also registered one goal and one assist, Chance Homerin, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Gage VanOrder, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Levi Armstrong also scored for Peoria. In addition, Peoria received assists from Nathan Chasteen, who had two and Sam Turner, Blake Ortman, and Joshua Hart, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Blues were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game St. Louis had been spending in the box. The Jr. Blues kept the Mustangs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Marc Hayton made 41 saves on 43 shots. The Mustangs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brendan Murphy was ejected from the game. Cooper Cothran made 34 saves for St. Louis on 40 shots. For the Jr. Blues, Andrew Kovacich was ejected from the game.
