Alexandria falls to North Iowa after surprising comeback

The North Iowa Bulls rallied from two goals down to secure a 3-2 win over the Alexandria Blizzard.

North Iowa never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Bulls was down 2-0 after a goal by Alexandria's Zach Kihle at 5:03 in the second period. North Iowa tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Timothy Santopoalo at 16:00 in the second period. The Bulls scored the game winner on the power play at 8:30 in the third period on a goal by Santopoalo.

North Iowa was led by Logan Murphy, who finished with one goal.

The Bulls' offense operated below they season average. North Iowa averages 6.7 goals per game. The Blizzard were unable to stop the Bulls from sending pucks towards the net, and North Iowa eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

North Iowa additionally got points from Santopoalo, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Dylan Zins also scored for North Iowa. Other players who recorded assists for North Iowa were Matthew Kaitchuck, Ron Lindgren, Kyle Krueger, Matt Kroska, and Brandon Anderson, who contributed one a piece.

Alexandria could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Blizzard put an average of 4.9 pucks into the net per game.

Alexandria was helped by Joe Anderson, who had one goal. Anderson scored 8:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alexandria. Ian Ecklund provided the assist. In addition, Alexandria received assists from Bo Gronseth and Nate Mettenburg, who each chipped in one.

Chris Amsden rejected 27 shots on goal for the Bulls. North Iowa incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Evan Bisek made 33 saves for the Blizzard on 36 shots. Alexandria totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and had no power play opportunities.
