Chicago uses shootout to best Wisconsin, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Chicago Junior Bulldogs defeated the Wisconsin Whalers in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Wisconsin got a shootout goal from Kaleb Morley. In addition to the clincher, Chicago got a shootout goal from Matt Kostopoulos.

The Junior Bulldogs pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes.

Chicago forced the Whalers goalie Michal Marcinek to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

The Junior Bulldogs were helped by Tyler Dalton, who had one goal. Dalton scored on the power play 11:41 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Chicago. Chicago had gained a power play chance when Dan Addie was whistled for interference. Vince Bartkowiak picked up the assist. Chicago additionally got points from Toms Taurins, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Chicago came via Daniel Marotz, who had one.

Wisconsin's offense rang up 50 shots on the Junior Bulldogs' net.

The Whalers were helped by Zack Johnson, who registered one goal. Johnson scored on the power play 13:00 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Wisconsin had gotten the advantage when Chicago's Justin Stein was sent off for tripping. Ryan Martin assisted on the tally. Jon Skarlis also scored for Wisconsin. Other players who recorded assists for Wisconsin were D.J. Mussey and Chad Frost, who each chipped in one.

Joey Garapolo rejected 48 shots on goal for the Junior Bulldogs. Chicago registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Michal Marcinek made 32 saves for the Whalers on 34 shots. Wisconsin incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
