The Chicago Junior Bulldogs beat the St. Louis Jr. Blues, 4-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. Matt Blaszkiewicz provided Chicago with the game-winning tally when he scored 20 seconds into the the first period. Matt Kostopoulos picked up the assist.Kostopoulos had two goals and one assist to lead the Junior Bulldogs. Kostopoulos scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:02 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Chicago. Chicago had taken the advantage when St. Louis' Alexander Carlsson got sent off for interference. Luke Morin assisted on the tally. Kostopoulos' next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Chicago with 13 seconds left in the third period. The Junior Bulldogs kept the Jr. Blues' goalie busy throughout the game, and Clint Steinmeyer made 44 saves on 48 shots. Chicago was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes. Chicago also got a goal from Trevor Foley as well. More assists for Chicago came via Vince Bartkowiak, who had one. St. Louis' offense operated below it season average. The Jr. Blues average 4.2 goals per game. St. Louis' offense rang up 58 shots on the Junior Bulldogs' net. The Jr. Blues were helped by Tommy Heinzman, who grabbed one goal. Heinzman scored on the power play 11:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Chicago. A hooking penalty on Ryan Maksimovic had put St. Louis on the power play. Adam Roeder picked up the assist. St. Louis also got points from Roeder, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, St. Louis received assists from Andrew McGlynn, who had one. Michael Krch made 56 saves for Chicago on 58 shots. The Junior Bulldogs registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Jr. Blues incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
