Huge game by Shand boosts Metro over Cincinnati, 6-1

Kevin Shand had two goals and three assists to lead the Metro Jets to a 6-1 victory over the Cincinnati Swords.

Shand found the back of the net 15:26 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 43 seconds into the third to make the score 4-1 Metro.

Metro was led by goalie Kameron Limburg, who finished with 32 saves while allowing one goal. Limburg certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.57 entering the contest.

The Jets made Swords' netminders to work in net, firing 38 shots and forcing 32 saves. Alec Rounds made 29 stops and Artie Haase made three. Metro surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Jets average 2.9 goals per contest. Metro was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of nine man advantages. The Jets' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. Metro found itself short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays.

Metro additionally got points from James Roznowski, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Josh Beleski, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Adam Lockner also scored for Metro. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Luke Thom, Carter Reid, Cooper McLean, TJ Krajewski, Zach Kopinski, and Matt Dempsey, who each chipped in one.

Cincinnati was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Swords surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Cincinnati's offense operated below it season average. The Swords average 3.6 goals per game. Cincinnati's offense rang up 33 shots on the Jets' net.

The Swords were led by RJ Marshall, who scored the team's only goal. Marshall scored on the power play 2:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cincinnati. A kneeing penalty on Shand had put Cincinnati on the power play. Robert Gentile provided the assist.

For the Swords, Chandler Dorbin was ejected from the game.
