Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Toledo Cherokee defeated the Michigan Mountain Cats in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Michigan got a shootout goal from Guy Soulliere. In addition to the clincher, Toledo got a shootout goal from Dominic Antonelli.The Cherokee's penalty kill excelled, as Toledo gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays. The Mountain Cats were unable to stop the Cherokee from sending pucks towards the net, and Toledo eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The Cherokee were helped by Zachary Armstrong, who had one goal. Armstrong scored 5:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toledo. Clay Horvath picked up the assist. David Bogart also scored for Toledo. In addition, Toledo received assists from Tyler Zalecki, Brody Duncan, and Kyler Omey, who contributed one a piece. Michigan forced Toledo goalie Horvath to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The Mountain Cats were helped by Shayne Guiffre, who tallied one goal. Guiffre scored 14:48 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jeremy Cugliari assisted on the tally. Michigan additionally got points from John Arms, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Horvath rejected 32 shots on goal for the Cherokee. Toledo incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Michigan's Kevin OShea stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Mountain Cats incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
