Johnson nets hat trick, leads Wisconsin to 6-3 win over Cleveland

The Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks could not stop the Wisconsin Whalers' Zack Johnson, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-3 win.

Johnson got on the scoresheet 3:59 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:34 into the third and at 6:56 into the third.

Wisconsin forced Cleveland goalie Joseph Moza to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. The Whalers capitalized on the Jr. Lumberjacks' penalties, netting two goals while skating with a man advantage.

Wisconsin also got points from Ryan Martin, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Connor Hyde also scored for Wisconsin. In addition, Wisconsin received assists from Chad Frost, Mitch Riese, and Jon Skarlis, who each chipped in one and Tim Tarvis and Brett Gates, who contributed two a piece.

Cleveland kept Wisconsin's goalie busy throughout the game, and David Volkmann made 38 saves on 41 shots.

The Jr. Lumberjacks were helped by Brendan Logan, who racked up one goal. Logan scored 5:02 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cleveland also got a goal from Stefan Horgas as well. More assists for Cleveland came via Avery Huibregtse and Tyler Stockwell, who each chipped in one.

The Whalers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Joseph Moza made 46 saves for Cleveland on 52 shots. The Jr. Lumberjacks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
